HISTORY
One of a class of 10 0-6-0 shunters numbered D2510-D2519 built during 1961 and designated as class D2/12, later 2/14 A. Powered by a Gardner 8L3 engine and SSS Powerflow double synchro mechanical transmission. Dual braked with air brakes on the loco and vacuum train brakes.

An earlier batch of shunters built by Hudswell-Clarke in 1955/56, numbered D2500-D2509, were similar mechanically to the later batch but differed significantly in their external appearance, which was more akin to a steam tank engine.

The entire class, originally designed for working in Birkenhead Docks were less successful than the similar Ruston & Hornsby (Class 07) dock shunters built for Southampton docks, and were all withdrawn by BR during 1967/68. A few were sold into Industrial use but most had been scrapped by the end of the 60's.

D2511, withdrawn by BR in August 1967, is now the sole surviving example and arrived at the K&WVR in 1977.
